Donald's Story

Donald Ray (Don) Norman was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma Aug. 14, 1929 to Alvy and Mildred Norman.
He was a long time farmer and rancher with his parents in Grady and Caddo counties. He attended Verden schools and was on the basketball team for four years. He also attended Central State University and the University of Oklahoma. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After retirement, he moved to the Duncan area for many years.
When he was younger he very much like riding his horse and had a dog that he particularly loved.
During World War II there was a landing strip by his home farm and it was a big thrill to Donald to have the owners of W and B Flying School stop at the strip and take him on a short flight.
For recreation Don liked playing card games. He started at a young age playing Pitch with his family and helped teach his great nieces and nephew the game. He played Gin for many years with a group of friends and recently learned to play bridge.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Norman, of the home; children, Jill Geslin and Bruce Ridley and his wife Carrie of Duncan; his sister, Mary Wood of Chickasha; a niece, Karen Moran and nephews, Donald and Norman Wood; as well as three great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don passed away Dec. 12, 2016. After cremation, a private celebration of his life will be held by his family.
