Garry's Story

Garry Wayne Wenzel , 69, of Oklahoma City passed away on Sunday October 2, 2016. He was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma on October 12, 1947 and attended Ninnekah High School until 1967, he was then drafted into the United States Army where he served in Special Forces. He was a Vietnam Veteran and served overseas for 2 years. Upon his return from serving his country he worked for Williams Brothers in South American on the Amazon River, he worked for Steagall Oil and then retired from Green Bay Packaging in Chickasha in 2010.
He married Beverly Ann Hooper on February 19, 1982 and was blessed with his only daughter Lacey Ann Wenzel on December 6, 1982. His family describes him as an avid motorcyclist, who spent many years travelling the country by motorcycle. Garry never met a stranger, even though he believed the glass was "half empty" he always had Beverly and Lacey to fill the other half.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, as well as brother and sister-in-law Stanley and Betty Wenzel, sister-in-law Marsha Bartlett, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Bill and Theresa Hooper, several nieces and nephews, as well as his "Grand Fur Kids" Roxi and Remi and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Billy and mother Nadine, mother-in-law and father-in-law Ann and Roy Hooper, as well as brother Larry Wenzel.
John Ireland Funeral Home in Moore, OK will be handling the cremation and at Garry's request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, www.regionalfoodbank.org, OKC Freedom Riders www.okcfreedomriders.com or a charity of your choice.
The family wishes to wishes to thank Lifeline Hospice and the nurses at the Norman Regional Oncology Infusion Center for all the loving care they gave before his passing.
