Geraldine's Story

Text size

In the afternoon on August 29, 2016, Geraldine (Geri) Patricia Maloney passed away at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was 71 years old.  Geri was born on November 10, 1944, in the Bronx, New York City, New York.  She was the second daughter to parents James A. Hayes and Grace Coughlin Hayes.
Geri graduated Salutatorian from Villa Maria Catholic School in 1962.  After high school she trained as a secretary and worked for an advertising agency in New York City until the time she married and moved to Oklahoma.  It took a bit of getting used to for this city girl moving to rural Oklahoma, but quickly she felt that it was where she belonged.  Oklahoma was her home.
Geri moved to Chickasha in 1972, where she has resided until her death.  She lived a life full of love, challenge and joy.  One of the achievements she was most proud of was when she graduated with a Bachelors Degree from the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in 1988.  After obtaining her degree, she worked for Department of Human Services as a Social Worker until the time she retired in 2000.  Geri enjoyed being able to help people when they were in difficult life situations. One of her great gifts was being able to connect with people (not to mention her quick wit and great sense of humor). Geri remained close to many of her co-workers from DHS.
In retirement, Geri still kept very busy.  She was the true matriarch of her family and she enjoyed being a part of her daughter's lives.  She could often be seen about town driving family members from here to there in her car that she called "Grandma's Taxi".  Another place she devoted her time was to her beloved church, Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.  In 2007 Geri began to work part time as the church secretary for Holy Name.  She worked for Fr. James Goins and Fr. Shane Tharp.   She loved working at the church and adored her coworkers there too.  In 2012 she retired from that job and refocused her service to the Church.  Geri went through the required education and training to become a Eucharistic Minister and she delivered Communion to those in the Parish whom were sick and homebound.  She continued this ministry until last year when she became too sick.
Geri is preceded in death by her parents, James and Grace Hayes and her grandson, Demario Earls.
Geri is survived by her sister Jane McGarity of Ormond Beach, Fl; her five daughters, Lorrie Ines of Vacaville, CA, Patty Lopez of Chickasha, OK, Helen Foster of McKinney, TX, Jeannine Earls of Chickasha, OK and Veronica Maloney of Chickasha, OK;  her ten grandchildren, Ashley Ines, Brian Ines, Veronica Lopez, Mikel Parish, Victoria Parish, Craig Earls, Corey Earls, Blaine Stuckey, Celsie Stuckey and Haley Stuckey;  her great-grandson Noah Parish, as well as her dear nieces, Kimmarrie Hammond, Allison Turner, Jennifer McGarity, nephew Brian McGarity and many cousins.
A Wake will be held at Sevier Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church.  Following the Mass will be the Rite of Committal at Rose Hill Cemetery, Chickasha, 0klahoma.
