Greta Lawson Ward
Funeral service for Greta Lawson Ward, age 97 of Ninnekah, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 14, 2017 in the Epworth United Methodist Church. Pastor Gene Nease will officiate.
Greta was born the daughter of Frank and Alta French on November 16, 1919 in Grandfield, Oklahoma. She died on November 8, 2017 in Marlow, Oklahoma.
Greta grew up in Davidson area and graduated from Victory High School. She married Harley Lawson on December 8, 1938. Harley and Greta moved to Alex in 1943 where they farmed extensively until Harley retired in 1978 when they continued their cattle business. They were married for almost fifty years at the time of Harley's death in 1985.Several years later she married Bill Ward who also preceded her in death. Greta was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who worked on the farm and took care of her family. She was a member of the Alex United Methodist Church and later Epworth United Methodist Church. Greta enjoyed participation in the Lay Witness Movement throughout Oklahoma and Kansas; singing in the choir; helping out Vacation Bible School; a member of the Wedding Ring Class.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Alan French, sister Alice Lee Howard, daughter Lynda Bailey, and sons-in-law Robert Currie and Gregory Wright.
Survivors include three daughters Alicia Currie of Burlington, Vermont, Kay Wright of Girard, Kansas and Rhonda McLearen and husband Bill of Marlow; son-in-law Floyd Bailey of Hazel Crest, Illinois; grandchildren Gwen Bailey, Larisa Parsley Danforth and husband Peter, Shelise Parsley, Brian Cox, Mary Kay McCormick and husband Michael, Erin Keller and husband Chris, Lance McLearen and wife Vanessa, Sara Martin and husband J. C., John McLearen; great grandchildren Nikko Bailey, Rhys Danforth, Andrew, Christian and Jonathan Cox, Hannah McCormick, Michaela McCormick, Thor McCormick, Adilyn Keller, Lauren Keller, Katilyn Kimsey, Jenna McLearen, Mari McLearen, Lily McLearen, Jayce Martin; sister Lois "Toady" Higgins of Frederick; many nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
