Memorial service for James Robert Ketchum, age 77, will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the Southern Oaks Church of Christ.
James Robert Ketchum of Chickasha, OK passed away on May 17, 2019. He was born in Purdy, OK on July 14, 1941 to Clyde and Bonnie (Burns) Ketchum. James spent his early years in Alex with his four brothers: Henry, Tommy, Wayne and Paul and his two sisters: Aline and Clydene. James graduated from Alex High School in 1960 where he was on the state runner-up football team. He worked in auto parts until his retirement when he started helping out at Can-Ok.
James married the "love of his life", Alice Glenn on April 12, 1962 and they were blessed with 57 years of marriage. Together they raised three sons: Jimmy, Timmy and Gary.
James instilled the love of sports to all of his boys as their little league coach and then their biggest fan when they played Jr High and Sr High sports. He never missed a game. James also had the boys participating in raising and showing hogs. They showed both locally and at the National Western Stock show in Denver. Their love for the competition carried over to their children where James loved to help and encourage his grandchildren. In their spare time, James enjoyed spending the weekends camping at the lake with his family and friends. All the boys were talented skiers including Alice. He also taught numerous other friends and family members how to ski.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Bonnie Ketchum, his grandmother Myrtle Burns; in-laws Frank and Opal Glenn; two brothers Tommy and Wayne Ketchum; sister Clydene Williamson.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Ketchum, sons Jimmy and Jana Ketchum, Timmy and Lisa Ketchum, Gary and Lisa Ketchum. Twelve grandkids: Corey and Ashley Livingston, Zackary Morris, Melanie Morris, Jacie Ketchum, Kristen Parrish, Ryan Parrish, Katie Cobble, Dylan and Evan Ketchum, Kelby and Abby Ketchum, Randi and Mike Decker, Levi and Laney Spears and Cole Ketchum. Great grandkids: Hayden, Bryden, Parker, Beckham, Maddox, Heidi, Brooklyn, Ryleigh and Whitleigh: sister Aline and Kenneth Jump, brother Henry and Pat Ketchum, brother Paul and Alice Ketchum, sister-in-law Shirley Ketchum: numerous nieces, nephews and other family.
