Graveside services for Jesse Dean Armstrong, age 86, of Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center, Lawton, OK, will be held Friday, May 10, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Alex Cemetery, Alex, Oklahoma. Mr. Armstrong went home to be with the Lord on May 7th, 2019 at the Lawton/Ft. Sill Veterans Center. He began his residency on July 1, 2004 and enjoyed many years of friendship with his fellow veterans and all the staff members. He was well known and loved by all.
Mr. Armstrong was born July 3, 1932 to James Everett (J. E.) and Cleo Katherine (King) Armstrong at the family's home near Rush Springs, Oklahoma. It was quite an eventful occasion because the roads were flooded so bad the doctor couldn't cross the creek to get to them.
Mr. Armstrong attended Alex Public Schools all his life until he entered the military. He was inducted into the United States Army on July 15, 1952 and was assigned as a Cook with the 7th Calvary Regiment. He was stationed in Hokkaido, Japan for almost all of his service time. He was honorably discharged at the rank of SP-2 (T) on July 13, 1955 at Fort Ord, California.
After returning home from military duty, Mr. Armstrong was employed in various occupations including several full-service gas stations, taxi cab service, welder helper and meter reader for Arkla Gas, machine operator for Maremont Corporation, meter reader for the City of Chickasha, and retired as a bus driver and custodian for Alex Public Schools.
Mr. Armstrong enjoyed hunting, fishing, socializing, and traveling. He attended the Main Street Church of Christ as a youth with family members and the Alex United Methodist Church as an adult.
Mr. Armstrong is survived by his son, James Robert Armstrong and wife Michelle of Illinois, several grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, two sisters, Flona Faye Armstrong and Carol Ann Cecil of Alex, OK as well as numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Mr. Armstrong was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mae Armstrong, his parents, and his younger brother James Kent Armstrong.
The service is under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home, Chickasha, OK.
