John Dee Parton was born December 24, 1931, at Stecker (near Apache), Oklahoma. He was the 9th of 12 children born to Lattie Dee and Adah Taylor Parton. His parents were farmers and all of the family did farm work while growing up. He passed away on Monday, January 14, 2019, at the age of 87.
He graduated from Ninnekah, Oklahoma, high school. John was a veteran of the Air Force from 1951-1955, and served one year in Korea. He worked as a mechanic for American Airlines for many years.
He lived on a small farm in the Cleveland, Oklahoma, area for 55 years, and three years ago had moved to Marlow, Oklahoma, to live closer to his niece, Nova Parton. John was a wordsmith, and enjoyed playing the game "Upwords" with anyone who would come by-and kept three unabridged dictionaries close by to verify words unfamiliar to those who challenged him to a game.
He had recently moved to the Lawton-Ft. Sill Veterans Center due to health issues.
He is survived by one sister, Nell Parton Ryan, of California, and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters: Lucille Doan, Louise McElroy, Jewell Hyatt, Mary Shillinglaw, and Ruth Bifulco, and his brothers: Ted, Paul, Russell, Webster and Lindy Post Parton.
At his request, no funeral service is scheduled. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Bailes-Polk Funeral Home.
