Johnny Wayne "Buddy" Mahan
Graveside service for Johnny Wayne "Buddy" Mahan, age 74 of Chickasha, will be at 12:00 noon on Friday, September 1, 2017, in the Haskell City Cemetery in Haskell, Oklahoma.
Buddy was born in Coal Hill, Arkansas on November 11, 1942. He was the middle child of Johnny Wesley Mahan and Virginia 'Blossom' Hardgrave. He enjoyed hunting and spending time with his grandparents known as 'Mom and Pop'. The family had several places they called home due to Buddy's father being a gospel preacher. He attended and graduated high school in Haskell, Oklahoma where he met the love of his life, Emma Catherine (KK) Barnett. He went to college at OCC (Oklahoma Christian) in Edmond, OK but could not stay away from his love, so he came home and they were married on July 14, 1961. They had 3 sons they raised in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They very lovingly provided a Christian home and education to the boys. Buddy enjoyed hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He worked for the U.S. Postal service until he retired to take care of his ailing wife. After her death in 2005 he moved to Chickasha, Oklahoma. He was an active member of Southern Oaks Church of Christ. He battled cancer with dignity and strength as he continued living a Christian life. He was an example to all around him.
Survivors include 3 sons and their families: Son DeWayne Mahan and wife Liz of Chickasha, OK, and grand children Corey Mahan of Penrith Australia and Hannah Mahan of Duncan, OK; Son Brian Mahan and wife Mandy of Longview Texas, grand daughter Whittney Williams of Longview, Tx, and great grand children Emma Carol Williams of Longview Tx, Kimberly Mahan of Shreveport, LA and Daniel Mahan of Maud, Tx; Son Michael Mahan and wife Karen and their children of Muskogee, OK; Brother Butch Mahan and wife Ginny of Alma, Arkansas; Sister Layne Downs of Barling, Arkansas; along with several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Ross Hospice for the compassionate, professional care they gave to Buddy and the family.
