Funeral services for Lavelle Cocheran, 80, of Cement will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019 in the Cement High School Auditorium with Brian Johnson officiating.
Lavelle (McDonald) Cocheran was born June 8, 1939 in Natchitoches, Louisiana to Curtis Henry McDonald and Dorothy (Lofton) McDonald. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on August 6, 2019 at her home in Cement, Oklahoma surrounded by her loved ones.
Lavelle grew up in and around Natchitoches, Louisiana and graduated from Natchitoches High School in 1959.
She met Wiley W. Cocheran on a blind date and it was love at first sight. Three months later, on April 15, 1962 they were married and had 57 years together, raising their family in a loving and faithful home.
For 21 years, Lavelle was the "Best Cook Ever" at Cement School and many kids and teachers fondly remember her and her cinnamon rolls. She was also a member of the Cement Church of Christ for many years. She enjoyed sewing for her family, especially sewing for her great-grandchildren to model in a fashion show hosted by Rural Neighbors OHCE, of which she was a member. She was also a member of OEA Eastern Stars and the Cement Community Association (CCA).
Her world was centered around her family. Lavelle "Grandma" and Wiley "Grandpa" taught their family what love was, how to love and that love was everlasting. She was a great example and will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by both parents; sister, Gladys McDonald; son-in-law, A.J. Cogburn; sisters-in-law, Allene McDonald and Davelyn Cocheran; niece, Julia Beth Tindall and nephew, Rodney Cocheran.
Survivors include her husband, Wiley, of the home; daughter, Teresa Diane Cogburn of Cement; daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Terry Bogle of Chickasha; grandchildren, Casey and Cassie Hargrove, Keisha and Lewis Sorrels, Lyndsay and Will Doby, and Ashley and Matt Haney; great-grandchildren, Ozzy, Peyton, Trey, Keana, Keriah, Jaxsyn, Grant, Katy, Wiley, and Willo; sister, Laverne Foster; brothers and sister-in-law, Roy and Ina McDonald and Jimmy McDonald; and other extended family and friends.
Viewing will be at Ferguson Funeral Home in Chickasha on Thursday, August 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to OU Foundation, PO Box 258856
Oklahoma City, OK 73125-8856 with a memo for Stephenson Cancer Center on the check.
Interment will be in the Cement Cemetery under the direction of Ferguson Funeral Home.
