Linda Kay Burkhead
Funeral service for Linda Kay Burkhead, age 69 of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in the Verden First Baptist Church. Rev. Troy Taylor will officiate.
Linda Kay Kibby was born on August 4, 1948 in Holdenville, Oklahoma to John Kibby Jr. and Addie Hulsey Kibby. She died on November 6, 2017 in Duncan, Oklahoma after a battle with Dementia.
Linda attended grade school at Fairview and Yeager, Oklahoma. She graduated from Moss High School near Holdenville, Oklahoma. Linda attended Oklahoma State University. She later returned to Moss Public School where she was the secretary for eleven years. She married Royce Burkhead on February 28, 1971 in Holdenville and they made their home there for many years. She and Royce owned and operated the Holdenville Montgomery Wards, while Linda also owned an H & R Block in Wewoka, Oklahoma for several years. After selling the businesses, Linda continued to do taxes because she loved working with people. She also kept doing taxes after she moved to Verden until she retired. After leaving H & R Block and during off season of taxes she worked at David's Mini Mart and Aqua Fish Farms in Holdenville until they moved to Verden, Oklahoma.
While living in Holdenville and raising their children, Linda was a proud supporter of the Holdenville Wolverines. It didn't matter what sport her girls played, she was a supporter. She also loved Holdenville, OU and OSU football. While living in Holdenville Linda was a member of the First Baptist Church.
After moving to Verden, Linda was employed with Delta Faucet of Oklahoma until her retirement. She also shared her love of sports with the USAO Lady Drovers, Minco Bulldogs, Friend Falcons, and the Verden Tigers. She traveled all over the state to watch her girls and grandchildren compete in football, basketball, soccer, softball, and track.
Linda was an active member of the First Baptist Church Verden where she loved singing in the choir. Linda loved all children and they all held a special place in her heart. Linda has now gone home to heaven and is holding her precious Danika and singing to her.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; maternal grandparents Walter and Edna Hulsey; paternal grandparents John Kibby Sr. and Lula; one granddaughter Danika Harris.
Linda is survived by her husband Royce of the home who waited on her and took great care of her; three children Greg Burkhead and wife Christy of Blackwell, Tracey Singleton and husband Shawn of the Cogar area, and Donitta Harris and husband Dylan of Chickasha; grandchildren Courtney, Braden and Haley Burkhead of Blackwell, Chase, Chance and Chelsey Singleton of Cogar and Devynn and Delaney Harris of Chickasha; four great grandchildren Brody, Brantley, Aubree, and Adelene; siblings Bill and Terry Kibby of Wetumka, Carol and Eugene Weber of Anadarko, Jerry and Elaine Kibby of Claremore, Donna and James Hamilton of Anadarko, JoVaughn and David Davis of Verden; numerous nieces, nephews, other family, and friends.
Interment will be in the Verden Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
