Margarita Gomez Pena
Funeral service for Margarita Gomez Pena, age 95, will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Bible Baptist Church in Chickasha. Rev. Larry Hatfield will officiate and Rev. Kim Hayes will assist.
Margarita was born the daughter of Julian Gomez and Paulita (Mijares) Gomez on January 30, 1922 in San Angelo, TX. She passed peacefully in her home, surrounded by loved ones, on March 14, 2017. Prior to her passing, she was the last surviving sibling of 12.
She grew up in Rowena, Texas on a farm. As a young girl she attended a little farmhouse school which still stands today. She met her husband, Alberto Cordova Pena, Sr. in Ballinger, TX and they married on August 30, 1942 in Paint Rock, TX. After marriage Alberto served in WWII for 4 years. After his return Margaret and Alberto worked many jobs together to provide for their family. They were blessed with 15 children. Her greatest achievement was being a very loving mother.
She was preceded in death by her parents Julian and Paulita; her husband Alberto; one infant daughter Delia; one son Ray; and grandchildren Joey, Randy, Mario, Derek Justice, Heather, Sara and Kalynn; also 5 brothers and 6 sisters.
Survivors include 10 daughters Lydia, Frances and Bill, Margie and Steve, Oralia and Bill, Molly, Delma and Gyro, Rebecca, Alicia and Paul, Norma and Ken and Gloria; 3 sons Albert and Tammy, Edward and Linda and Sammy; 45 grandchildren, over 100 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren.
Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery in Chickasha. Service is under the direction of McRay Funeral Home.
