Maxine was born in Caldwell, KS, on April 22, 1927, to Max E. and Grace L. Neimoyer McColl and graduated from Fairview High School, Fairview, OK. She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Daniel and Susie McColl.
Maxine was married to Joe M. Manning on April 6, 1946; they enjoyed 61 years together before Joe preceded her in death in 2008. She is also preceded in death by an infant son, Jimmy Don, and a half-brother, Daniel C. McColl.
Maxine worked as a legal secretary for many years and also enjoyed employment at Maremont Corporation, retiring from her profession in 1989. She and Joe loved camping and fishing, and in midlife developed a penchant for water skiing, which they both relished until they were no longer physically able to participate in the sport.
In Maxine's later years, she loved the new relationship she developed with her Lord, spending hours studying the Word of God and looking for ways to help others. One of her favorite weekly activities consisted of visiting and lunching with friends and residents at Glenhaven Assisted Living Residence. She was a long-time member of the First Christian Church, where she enjoyed participating in Operation Christmas Child, small-group knitting, and volunteering at the Chickasha Emergency Food Pantry. She was actively involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, in which she held a lifetime membership. Maxine was a proverbial optimist -- always seeing the good through everything and in everyone.
Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Rhoades and husband, Edd; three grandchildren, Darilyn Greenhow and husband, Steve, Rebekah Rhoades, Caryn Clark and husband, Bruce; and six great grandchildren.
Funeral service will be a private, family celebration, with arrangements being handled by Crawford Family Funeral in Edmond (610 N.W. 178th St, Edmond, OK 73012). A come and go visitation for Maxine will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, September 8, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
