Melvina's Story

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 12, 2018 at First Assembly of God Church, Chickasha, OK. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
Melvina "Mellie" Jane (Lynn) Tackett, of Chickasha, OK, was born February 21, 1929 in Waurika, Oklahoma. She passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018 in Chickasha at the age of 88.
Mellie, as she enjoyed being called, was one of five children born to Virgil and Ora Lynn. Mellie attended school in Chickasha, OK, graduating from Chickasha High School. On April 6, 1947, Glenn Tackett and Mellie were married at First Assembly of God in Chickasha, and to this union were born two children, Glenda Jane and Kenneth Ray. Over the sixty-two years of marriage, the, the Tackett's attended First Assembly of God, and before her death, Mellie was the oldest living original member.
Mellie worked for a brief time following graduation at Kress retail store. After Glenn and Mellie married, she became a homemaker. In 1965, Glenn started his own business, Glenn Tackett Electric. Mellie, being sharp with numbers, kept the books for the business. In the spring of 1964, the Tackett family moved to the Friend community.
Mellie was a loving and caring woman of God. She dedicated her life to loving and praying for her family and friends, calling their names daily in prayer for safety, health and blessing over their lives. She was a loving wife, mother, and "Emo" to her grandchildren. The joy of her life were her two grandsons, Eddie and Geff. She delighted in being "Emo" to not only her grandsons, but to their friends and to the community. Her greatest treasures were her husband of 62 years, a loving daughter and son-in-law, wonderful grandchildren, and 3 special great-grandchildren.
Mellie was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Ora Lynn; husband, Glenn Tackett and infant son, Kenneth; brother, Melvin Lynn and wife Ruby; brother, Harold Lynn and wife Ruth; sister, Annette Tankersley and husband Tank; brother, John Lynn and wife Norma; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Harold and Inez Tackett; nieces, Lynette Morton and JoEllen Tackett; nephews: Ed Lynn, Fred Lynn and John Lynn.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Glenda and Tom Shearer; Grandchildren, Glenn Edward "Eddie" and Teri Shearer and family; Geff and Jennifer Shearer; Great-grandchildren: Kaleb, Olivia and Mykayla Shearer, Sister-in-law, Fannie and Kenneth Parker and family; Loving nieces and nephew as follows: Bryan and Linda Lynn and family; Marie Lynn and family; Carolynn and Don Elliott and family; Phillip Henkle, Owen Lynn and family; Virgil and Anita Lynn and family; Jeri Sue cooper and family; Shannon and Peter Butterfield and family; Linda and Johnny Miller and family; Dwayne and Irina Willis and family; Dale and Bonnie Tackett and family; Sue Nelson-Vander Zyl and family; Madeline Byrd and family; Gary and Donalene Tackett and family; Jack Hanks, Bonnie Hanks; extended special family, Jean and Gary Cloke and a host of friends.
