Merrill's Story

MERRILL BALLENGER BURRUSS, JR. was born on August 4, 1936 in Oklahoma City, OK to Merrill Sr. and Zelma E. (Ball) Burruss. He passed away on August 2, 2017 in OKC,OK at the age of 80. Merrill graduated from Chickasha High School in 1954. He then attended OSU in Stillwater, where he earned a BA in Agriculture and later, a Master's Degree in Agriculture Economics.
Merrill served in Oklahoma National Guard, serving to retirement and achieving the rank of Colonel.  He married Mary Ann Foley on August 23, 1958 in Chickasha, OK. She preceded him in death on January 14, 1991. The couple lived in Stillwater, Chickasha, Cyril, Konawa, and Lawton before moving to Kingfisher in 1967. He worked in the banking industry, serving as president of People's National Bank in Kingfisher, retiring in 1997.
Merrill was a lifetime director of OMRF beginning in 1981, a member of the Geary-Hinton Rotary Club and the OSU Alumni Foundation. He was an active member of the 45th Infantry Division Artillery Association, active in the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve. Merrill was an officer candidate School Hall of Fame member and a member of the Education and Employment Ministry. He was also an avid supporter of the Geary, Chickasha, and Kingfisher, youth livestock, sports, and general endeavors.
Merrill was a member of Nazarene Church in Kingfisher and was very active in the First Christian Church of Geary. Merrill enjoyed farming, mowing and running equipment for over 25 years. He also enjoyed high school and collegiate Sports, and most of all, Merrill enjoyed his family. He was an encourager to people of all ages.
He was preceded in death by his parents, M.B. and Zelma Burruss, and his first wife, Mary Ann Burruss.
Survivors Include: his wife Nadyne Burruss of Geary, OK, his children, John Burruss of OKC,OK, Charles Edward Burruss and wife Angela of Chickasha, OK, and Grandaughter Mary Ann Burruss; his step daughters, Susan Bulls and husband David of Tyler, TX, Pam Walters and husband Phillip of Little Axe, OK, 5 step granddaughters, April Burns and husband Brandon of Marshall, OK, Landon Miller of Tulsa, OK, Ashley Robertson and husband Tanner of Canyon, TX, Saber Bruce of Tyler, TX, and Payton Bruce of Tyler, TX, 4 step great grandchildren, Colton and Ryan Burns, and Finley and Sally Rose Robertson as well as many other relatives and friends.
