Peggy J. Williams
Funeral service for Peggy J. Williams, 81, of Verden, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the Verden First Baptist Church. Rev. Troy Taylor will officiate.
Peggy was born the daughter of Jasper (Jack) R. Lumpkin and Lily Pearl Harris Lumpkin on November 11, 1934 south of Ft. Cobb, Oklahoma. She died on September 7, 2016 in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Peggy lived in the Ft. Cobb area until about 1938. At that time, her family moved to a dairy between Broken Arrow and Tulsa. She started school at Union Consolidated. After completing the 5th grade, the family moved to the Broxton community. Peggy married Alvin Monroe in 1952 and they parted in 1972. To this union three children were born. In 1975, she married Alvin Williams. They lived in Verden for many years. Peggy served as the post master in Verden and retired with 25 years of service. After retiring, she spent time gathering family history.
Peggy gave her soul to Christ at Hopewell Baptist Church. She was a member of the Verden First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Pearl Lumpkin, husband Alvin Williams, and nephew Keith Punneo.
Survivors include her son and wife Nelson and Linda Monroe; son and wife Alan and Sheila Monroe; daughter Rita Monroe; sister and husband Shirley and Cecil Crawford; granddaughter and husband Shayna and Jason Loving; granddaughter Elizabeth Monroe; grandson Charles Monroe; great grandson Hunter Loving; great great granddaughter Sydni Loving; nephew Kenneth Punneo; great nephews Joey and Eric Punneo; uncle and wife Merle and Wanda Lumpkin; aunt Betty Acton; aunt Sadoka Harris; several cousins.
Burial will be in the Verden Cemetery. Service will be under the direction of the McRay Funeral Home.
