Rex's Story

Memorial services for Rex Hood Paty, 87, of Chickasha, were held 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma.
Rex Hood Paty was born on November 15, 1930 in Willow, Oklahoma, the son of Ronald Paty and Mary Lenora (Hood) Paty. He died Wednesday, December 28, 2017 in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
Rex grew up in Willow, Oklahoma and attended school there through the 8th grade. He graduated from high school in Ocina, Oklahoma in 1948. After high school he graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He then joined the United States Navy and after finishing boot camp married Gladys Hocker on April 4, 1951, in Sayre, Oklahoma. To that union his two children were born.
During his time in the Navy, he served on the aircraft carriers USS Yorktown, USS Kearsarge, and USS Sicily during the Korean Conflict. In 1955, after he was honorably discharged, he returned to college and graduated with a degree in education. After working for the public school in Berlin, OK, for one year he moved to Norman and enrolled at the University of Oklahoma, graduating in 1958 with a degree in medical technology. It was at that time that the family relocated to Chickasha where Rex went to work at the Chickasha Clinic and Hospital then located on Choctaw Avenue. He continued to work there after the clinic moved to Borden Park. He retired from the re-named Southern Plains Medical Center after 36 years of employment.
Rex enjoyed music; he played the piano, keyboard, a number of other instruments and loved to entertain. He used his talents to sing in the choir and praise band for many years at Epworth United Methodist Church where he was a member. He married Helen Sparks Martin in Chickasha on January 19, 2008. After marriage they continued singing in church as well as musical activities at nursing homes, and assisted living centers. Rex also enjoyed running and jogging, running several marathons with his grandson, Brandon. He was a volunteer at the Festival of Lights, a member of the library board and always a very devoted family man.
He was preceded in death by: both parents; brother, Malcolm Paty; wife, Gladys Paty in May 2006; and grandson, Brandon Paty in January 2010.
Survivors include: wife, Helen of the home; daughter, Rita Roles and Husband Jim of Chickasha; son, Glen Paty of Thailand; brother, Joe Paty and wife Louise of Carter, OK; sister, Lenora Ann Fite And husband Vinson of Willow, OK; granddaughters, Audra West and husband Jason of Columbia, MO and DeAnna Carter of Oklahoma City; grandsons, Adam Paty of Stillwater, OK and Zack Paty and wife Kelli of Edmond, OK; granddaughter-in-law, Cindy Coffman; great-grandson, Garrick West; great-granddaughter, Eve Paty; and one great-grandson on the way; step-sons, Hal Martin and Jay Martin of Oklahoma City; step-daughter, Kela Martin Lindsey and husband Ty of Norman; and step-grandchildren, Courtney Martin, Cara Martin, Kendall Martin, and Jake Martin all of Oklahoma City.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Music Department of Epworth United Methodist Church or St. Luke's Episcopal Church.
