Dana Gale (Phelps) Elmer, age 64, died Wednesday, March 15, 2017. She was born on January 20, 1953 in Waco, TX to Willie Darlene (Daniel) Phelps and Leonard Warren Phelps. Dana graduated from Amber-Pocasset high school in 1971 and attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University where she graduated with a degree in Accounting in 1975. After college, Dana went to work for Kerr-McGee in Henderson, Nevada on October 1, 1975. She and Bill Elmer were married on May 7, 1977.
Dana enjoyed her family, friends, and travelling, especially in their motor home. She was an active member and officer with their motor home group, the Good Sam RV Club. Dana enjoyed water skiing for much of her life. She retired from Kerr-McGee on June 30, 2006.
Dana accumulated friends throughout her life. Although she lived in Henderson, Nevada, she regularly visited with family and friends in the Pocasset area. She loved the young of age and young of heart alike. She was described by a close friend as, "a pillar of kindness--anyone who walked through her door was treated with respect, kindness, food, and rich conversation." No matter the circumstances, she was always there for her friends and family. The same loving nature, was poured into animals as well. Growing up, horses, cats and dogs found a home on the Phelps farm. As an adult, she had many dogs and even turtles which she treated as family.
Dana battled multiple forms of cancer in the final years of her life but maintained her upbeat sprit throughout. She is survived by her husband Bill Elmer of the home, daughter Jennifer Elmer of Seattle, WA, and two brothers, Dan Phelps of League City, TX and Doug Phelps of Tuttle, OK. She is survived by step children David Elmer, Danny Elmer, Debbie Elmer and 5 grand, 5 great grand, and 1 great, great grandchildren.
Memorial services for Dana will be held on April 7, from 3 to 4 PM, at Davis Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119.
Also there will also be a memorial service for Dana held in Pocasset, OK on April 22 at 1:00 PM at the Pocasset United Methodist Church.
