Graveside service for Harlen Whitfield, 80, of Cyril, Oklahoma, will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at the Fletcher Cemetery with Logan Prince, officiating. Visitation will be held Monday from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Fletcher Funeral Home. The family greeting friends on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Fletcher Funeral Home.
Mr. Whitfield passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016, in Lawton, Oklahoma at the age of 80.
Harlen Dewayne Whitfield was born May 4, 1935 in Cement, Oklahoma to Truman and DeRenda (Byrd) Whitfield. He graduated from Cyril High School in 1953. Harlen married Charlotte Thompson in May of 1955. The two were married for 60 years and were blessed with two daughters. Harlen and Charlotte moved to Pampa, Texas in 1957 when he went to work for Cabot Corporation and then later Dumas, Texas where he worked for Shamrock Oil Refinery. They moved back to Cyril in 1974 and he went to work for Sun Oil Refinery in Duncan before retiring as a driver for Younkin Propane in 1997. After retirement, he enjoyed working in his yard, going on motorcycle trips with his friends and family, and spending time with his grandchildren. Harlen was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Whitfield, of the home; 2 daughters: Gailia Daft of Fletcher and Tammy Elrod and her husband Keith of Gracemont; 1 brother, Truman Whitfield and his wife Flossie, of Cyril; 3 sisters: Gladys Setters of New Mexico, Berniece Akins of Chickasha, and Betty Middleton of Fletcher; 2 grandchildren: Amanda Budd and her husband John and Cody Daft and his wife Jill; 5 great grandchildren: Kalleigh and Mason Budd and Olivia, Dalton, and Barrett Daft; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Truman and DeRenda Whitfield; 1 brother, Paul Whitfield; and 1 sister, Myrtle Turner
