Harriet Luella (McDonald) Neill
Harriet Luella (McDonald) Neill, 97, passed peacefully from this world on November 17, 2016 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. She was born in Lindsey, OK on January 29, 1919, the oldest child of Dollie (Fortenberry) McDonald and Floyd Glenn McDonald. The family moved to Alec when she was a young child where she was followed by the birth by her brother Glenn and by her triplet brothers, Perry, Jerry and Derry. She was the Valedictorian of her class when she graduated from Alec High School in 1937 and attended the Oklahoma College for Women. She married Jack (SL) Neill on July 27, 1940. The couple were blessed with 3 children: William, Kay and Leigh Ann. She had many interests and hobbies and was an expert seamstress and the ultimate homemaker for her family. Her extended family was of the utmost importance to her throughout her life. One of her favorite hobbies was playing bridge, at which she excelled and she loved the camaraderie with her fellow bridge players. She belonged to many clubs throughout her life and, at the time of her death, she belonged to PEO Chapter CR and the Sorosis Club of Chickasha. She remained active in the community and her church (First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ in Chickasha). delivering Meals on Wheels at the age of 93. She had a great love of reading, which she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Harriet also loved to travel, going around the World and taking numerous cruises and tours throughout the years. Her last trip was to the beaches of Normandy, France at the age of 91. Harriet was a dignified and cultured woman, with a wonderful sense of humor. She was always positive and never spoke badly of anyone.
She was preceded in death by both parents, her brothers Glenn. Derry and Perry and her son William and his daughter Colleen Neill. She is survived by her brother Jerry McDonald of Monahans, TX, daughters Kay (Phillip) Neill Wint of Chickasha, OK, Leigh Ann (James) Neill Atwood of Maryland, grandchildren Christy (Steve) Neill Spiers, Scott Merrifield, Stacey (Eric) Neill Wiseman, Meredith (Michael) Merrifield Patterson, Howard (Jessica) Perkins and numerous great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her "adopted" daughter, Gilda Garrett Dunn of Weimar, TX.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Her Funeral will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the First Christian Church in Chickasha, Oklahoma under the leadership of Michael Oberlender. A Committal Service with be held thereafter at the Greenhill Cemetery in Lindsey, Oklahoma, all under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
