John Baldwin Hurd, Jr.

John Baldwin, Hurd, Jr., 73, of Tatum, passed away on Friday morning, Jan. 6, 2017, in Shreveport. He was born on Dec. 13, 1943, in Talladega, AL to the late John Baldwin Hurd, Sr. and Virginia Frances Hooper Hurd. Mr. Hurd graduated from Talladega High School with the class of 1961. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology from the University of Alabama, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Physiology from the University of Tampa, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Allied Science from the University of Nebraska Medical Branch. Mr. Hurd served his country in the U.S. Air Force as a Surgical Physicians Assistant for 24 years. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1990, at the rank of Major. Mr. Hurd moved to Tatum in 2008, from Chickasha, OK and was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
Survivors include his daughter, Stacy Lynn Hurd and husband Charles Brewer of Tatum; sisters, Cynthia Ann Gilbert of Alexander City, AL and Mary Katherine Freeman and husband Joel and their son Ben of Mathews, NC; granddaughter, Paige Denoon; and other family, Natalie Estes, Shelby Pepper, Andrew, Kelsey, and Demi Denoon, and Katelynn and Jacob Griffith.
A funeral service with military honors will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Roy Culley officiating. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the funeral service.
