Memorial service for Leonard Owen Garrison of Chickasha, Oklahoma will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the First Christian Church of Chickasha. A visitation will be held Wednesday, January 11 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sevier Funeral Home.
Leonard Owen Garrison was born June 26, 1943 in Sonoma, California. He was the son of
Owen Fain Garrison and Elsie Agnes Cauthron. He passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 in Chickasha, Oklahoma at the age of 73.
Leonard was raised on the family farm in Hinton, Oklahoma. He married Mary Kay Hall
December 26, 1964 in Anadarko, Oklahoma.
Leonard graduated from Hinton High School. In 1965 he started his teaching career in
Burlingame, Kansas. He was principal at Dickson, Oklahoma from 1967-1968. He then was
an elementary school teacher and coach at Hobart. In 1972 in Chickasha, he was principal at
West and Southwest Schools at the same time. He served as principal of Grand Ave Elementary in 1979. In 1985, he was elementary school principal in Hobart. In 1987, he served as superintendent of Central High Public Schools and in 1996, superintendent of Verden Public
Schools. In 1991, Leonard was awarded Superintendent of the Year for Oklahoma District 11.
He retired in 2001.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Chickasha. He was on the board of Directors
of Southwest Oklahoma School Administration Assoc., and Board of Directors of Secondary
School Activities Assoc.
His parents, Owen Fain Garrison and Elsie Agnes Cauthron preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Kay Garrison; Daughter, Dana Turpin; Son, Carl Garrison and wife Sandi; Grandchildren: Coulter Smith, Kensey Garrison, Ryne Garrison, Callie Smith and Ian Turpin; Sisters: Kathryn Chisum and husband Roy; Brenda Holland, Valerie Musser and husband Frank; Cheryl Garrison and Carol Garrison; Brothers: Bill Garrison and wife Kaye; Les Garrison and wife Billie; Jody Garrison and wife Glenda; Rick Garrison and Terral Garrison and wife Sandy; A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
