Dana G. (Hensley) McElroy Obituary

Dana G. (Hensley) McElroy was born January 31, 1962 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to John Levi Hensley and Lillie Ardeth (Edgmon) Hensley. She went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, July 7, 2024 after a short battle with brain cancer.

Dana graduated from Amber-Pocasset High School in 1980 and went on to become a Radiology Technologist with a specialization in mammography, working to further early breast cancer detection in memory of her mother. She spent many years at Southern Plains Medical Center and Oklahoma Breast Care Center before working at Grady Memorial Hospital, helping to establish the Women's Imaging Center. The highlight of her days was running into her patients anywhere and everywhere and spending time catching up and chatting.

After retiring, Dana enjoyed crocheting, macramé, and painting. She loved to show her works in craft shows and continue learning and developing her crafts.

Dana married her high-school sweetheart Rich McElroy in 1984 and had two beautiful girls, Katherine and Jenifer. She loved being a MeeMaw to her grandson, Tristan, teaching him how to paint and garden with her. She had many friends who she loved like family and never met a stranger. She was full of love, light, and life.

Loved ones left to remember Dana include her husband, Rich McElroy of the home; daughter, Katherine "Katy" Shipman-Abbott, husband, Daniel, and son, Tristan; daughter, Jenifer McElroy; brother, Johnny Glendon Hensley and wife, Debbie; sister, Susan Dowdle and husband, Richard; brother, Rocky Hensley and partner Donna; brother, Tony Hensley and wife Julie; brother-in-law, Dale McElroy; a whole host of Edgmon, Hensley, and McElroy aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews; and many friends that thought of her as family.

Dana was preceded in death by her parents, John and Ardeth Hensley, and her sister-in-law, Rae McElroy.

Come-and-go viewing will take place at Sevier Funeral Home in Chickasha on Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services for Dana McElroy, 62, of Amber, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the Minco First Baptist Church with burial service at the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home. Following the burial service, a fellowship luncheon in remembrance of Dana will be held at Minco First Baptist Church Family-Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her name to Grady Memorial Hospital Women's Imaging Center, where Dana dedicated her life's work to the early detection of breast cancer.
