Moundridge, Kansas - A funeral service for Edward Schmidt, of Moundridge, Kansas, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at the Plainview Mennonite Church.

Edward passed away the day after his 87th birthday on February 5, 2026 at the Moundridge Manor. He was born on February 4, 1939 in Chickasha, Oklahoma to Ben and Elda (Koehn) Schmidt.

He was a member of the Plainview Mennonite Church in Verden, Oklahoma.

Edward was united in marriage to Geneva Fern Unruh on April 16, 1961 in Chickasha. They shared 55 years of marriage before her passing on November 29, 2016.

Edward worked as a mechanic for John Deere.

He is survived by his daughters, Lisa (Cameron) Peppel of Moundridge, Sharon Schmidt of Moundridge, and Stephanie (Doug) Hamlin of Fort Sumner, NM; granddaughter, Paislee Peppel; and brother, David (Diane) Schmidt of Blanchard, OK.

Edward was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, David Schmidt; sister, Margaret Nightingale; and brothers, Ronald and Clyde Schmidt.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at the Moundridge Funeral Home with family present from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Viewing will be on Friday, February 20th at Ferguson Funeral Home from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and then at the church from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
